Australian dollars are not accepted anywhere in New Zealand so you’ll have to convert them either before you leave or as soon as you arrive.
Cards apply differently. Almost every Australian credit and debit card is accepted in New Zealand, so you can use them as you please.
Be sure to monitor the foreign currency conversion charges the banks may add to each transaction.
